Lesson Framework
Thriving and Surviving through Earth's Natural Processes
Lesson Overview
Students will ask questions about natural processes; use a jigsaw classroom process to read and share research; determine which processes are constructive and which are destructive; and consider ways that humans might be impacted. Then they will identify strategies, including use of technology, for reducing harm to humans and damages to property by natural processes and will create interactive models.

Featured Learning Experience: Modeling or Inventing Technology to Reduce Damages and Harm from Earth Processes
Students may invent or demonstrate technology intended to reduce the impact of natural processes.
Examples include earthquake proof building techniques, flood control devices, strategies for mitigating sea level rise, early warning systems, and evacuation routing as well as policy strategies (demonstrated in a simulation game) to reduce likelihood of humans locating in areas where natural processes are likely to threaten health and safety.
Supplies and Materials: Varies depending on device. See hyperlinks above.
